We asked Ben how to stay on track this festive season... Somehow he always manages to stay consistent, no excuses!
We're slowly approaching that period leading up to Christmas that's notorious for being full of parties and excess. Instead of resigning yourself to gaining an extra few pounds this year, use these simple 5 tips to help keep you on track, while still being able to enjoy everything the festive period has to offer.
1. Opt for 80/20
A December without any holiday indulging is not a December that anyone should experience, but that doesn't mean you need to go overboard at every meal! The breakdown is simple: 80 percent of the time you focus on eating clean, good-for-you foods, and 20 percent of the time you have the freedom to indulge as you please.
2. Amp up your workout schedule
Combat indulgent nights and all that partying with an amped up workout schedule. Taking on extra workouts will help you burn more calories, stay on track with your healthy eating routine, and beat the inevitable stress that comes along with festive shopping and planning. The dynamic range of classes classes at Core Collective are designed to complement each other, to allow you to mix up your training schedule as needed and to make sure you are consistently getting the results you want:
- Add an additional Accelerate, Pace or Velocity class into your weekly workout schedule, burn 400-600 calories and tuck into your Christmas pudding guilt free this year.
- Why not try one of our Resistance classes. Because of the versatility of the TRX suspension training, any goal can be achieved. You may wish to gain muscle strength, lose weight or even train for a marathon. Whatever your aim, regular TRX suspension training will get you there and have you feeling healthier and happier going into 2018.
- Or why not add some additional Power Yoga or Stretch classes into your workout schedule. Regular yoga practice is often associated with mindful eating, an awareness of physical and emotional sensations associated with eating. By causing breath awareness, regular yoga practice strengthens the mind-body connection. The awareness can help you tune in to emotions involved with certain cravings, and yoga breathing exercises can help you slow down and make better choices when cravings strike.
3. Stay hydrated
Staying hydrated through the cooler months can suppress your appetite, keep your skin looking good and even boost your metabolism.
4. Never go out famished
When you arrive at a potentially indulgent meal famished, you're much more likely to overeat and grab whatever is in sight. Instead of showing up ravenous, snack on high-fiber fruit, veg, and whole grains before you go out to keep your hunger in check for meals. The Core Collective Kitchen offers a holistic approach to fresh, natural, nourishing food. Nutritionally targeted to support an active lifestyle and restore from the inside out. Fuel yourself pre and post workout with food from our kitchen and arrive at the party full of energy and focused on winning the Christmas carol relay, rather than spending the evening by the buffet snacking.
5. Booze Wisely
Alcohol is full of empty calories and tons of sugar, which can mess with all the hard work you put in with eating clean and working out. I’m not saying skip out on the libations all season long - but it's important to choose wisely. Choose smarter with low-calorie cocktails or a glass of brut champagne, since it only clocks in at 91 calories per glass.
With these tips being said remember of course it's the holiday season and time should be spent with loved ones enjoying the festivities! Many of these revolve around food and drink so it is inevitable that you may indulge in a few things you would not normally, and that’s completely fine. It is what we do consistently that determines our lifestyles and progress… a few splurges here and there aren’t going to be detrimental to your progress. It’s all about finding a balance and enjoying your life. Consistency is key, once you have established a pattern it’s easier to keep the momentum going.
